Well, hello!  I’m very impressed that you made it this far into my site.

Anyway, my name is Paul Ekk and I don’t like to get out much.  This blog and its content pretty much testify to my loner-ness.  I’m the prototypical homebody; something of which I’m proud.  Seriously, my idea of a swingin’ time is staying home and reading a book on the couch or bed and honestly, this pretty much trumps all other types of fun.  Except for writing… I enjoy doing that too.  And except for spending time with my young family pictured below, which is the biggest reason why I like staying home in the first place.

So who am I?  Simple answer… I’m a husband, father, son, teacher, and central to this blog,

…a deacon.

I love Christ and his church.  I love the mercy of Christ to his church and the world, so I try to read about that as much as possible and A Deacon’s Life is my attempt to write broadly about Reformed Christianity (which is and will always be my all-consuming passion) but more specifically on the gospel-centered diaconate and the Christ-like mercy that that office tries to conveys.

But I also enjoy other stuff:

Just about any British Rock since the 80′s.

The rain and cold weather too.

Traveling with my wife and well, everything about her.

Soccer: all. year. long. baby!

And mentally skating along with my LA Kings on the ice.

Mornings with a hot cup of joe.

Playing trains with my son and hearing him call me, “Appa!!” a thousand times a day.  You just can’t beat that.

Bobbing my head (un)rhythmically at concerts.

Watching my guilty pleasure… Dexter

Cycling.  Running.  Racing.  Running.  Cycling.  For miles and miles on end.  That’s my first and last chiasm on this site.

Work… especially when the bell rings at 2:19 PM.

and finding out what tomorrow brings.

The family.
